First review of the album ”The End of Times”

We got the first preliminary review of the album for peek preview!

Darkness Is My Canvas – The End of Times

Darkness Is My Canvas blends the spirit of classic, melodic rock with modern soundscapes. At the heart of their music lies human emotion — the band consciously steers away from overly polished, mechanically precise production in favor of something more organic and expressive. While this approach may be seen by some as old-school, founding members Pete and Panu firmly believe it is the most effective way to communicate real feeling through music. Since its formation in 2017, Darkness Is My Canvas has remained an active and evolving band, both performing live and producing new material. On August 1st, they release their debut full-length album, The End of Times.

The album opens with Wash, a melodic and atmospheric track that sets the tone for what’s to come. It combines classic rock foundations with a modern edge. The first single, Rejected, stands out with its metal-influenced sound — expressive, energetic, and rich in melody, carrying an almost epic quality. Bleed continues the atmospheric feel, layering synths and restrained instrumental textures to create a cinematic experience. Ink In The Water introduces a more optimistic tone, driven by dynamic and expressive musicianship.

One of the highlights, The Maze, stretches to nearly nine minutes and features several tempo and rhythm changes. Despite its complexity, the track remains true to the band’s distinct and consistent sound. The title track, The End of Times, pays tribute to the progressive rock of the 1970s, with nostalgic tones and a sentimental atmosphere. Day Zero continues in a similar direction — atmospheric yet uplifting, with a carefully balanced arrangement that allows the track to evolve naturally.

The short instrumental Subliminal brings a more melancholic mood, while These Times captivates with its immersive and emotionally resonant sound. The album closes with Skin & Bones, a track that stands apart in tone and structure but reinforces the band’s commitment to sonic variety and expressive freedom.

The End of Times is a debut album that reflects on the past while embracing the present. Drawing from the roots of classic rock and metal, the band adds progressive influences and a cinematic feel to shape a sound that is their own. The result is a cohesive and emotionally driven musical journey that introduces Darkness Is My Canvas as a band with a clear identity and vision.
